Baking Bread at Home
Baking bread does not have to be hard, but if making a loaf from separate ingredients it can take a great deal of time. Making a loaf from basic ingredients can be rewarding and it is possible to come up with bread that has a unique taste.
If you do not have the time to bake from individual ingredients, there are two other options, although neither of these will provide you with the same uniqueness. Today there are a number of frozen doughs already mixed and kneaded which just need to be baked in an oven. This will provide the aroma and taste of freshly baked bread without spending the time on making it.
Alternatively it is also possible to purchase premixed packages of ingredients. This will still need to be mixed, kneaded and baked, so will take some time to make, but it will remove the time consuming practice of measuring out all of the separate ingredients.
It is vital that when you are mixing your ingredients, that your mixer has enough power to mix the dough properly. It is not uncommon for mixers to break because of the strain of attempting to mix the ingredients together.
You will find that as you make your first few loaves they will turn out different each time, even if you follow recipes exactly. To exactly replicate a particular loaf, it is necessary to pay close attention to what you do. Ignoring the recipe, oven temperature and the temperature of your kitchen will affect the mixture and baking process. As long as you take note of these variables it should be possible to make loaf after loaf, as well as doughnuts and sweet doughs, to the same standard each time you bake.
It is important to remember that even professional bakers are faced with the same issues you do. A professional baker will have notes about the oven used to bake, the mixer used to mix ingredients and even the temperature of their working environment. The baker will alter the make-up of their ingredients to take into account these variations ensuring that there product is as close to perfection each and every time.
A premixed set of ingredients or frozen bread dough will of course remove the ingredient variables, although you will still be faced with other variables. Thus other tips, in regards to bread handling, preparation, baking and finishing are still valid. Getting your ingredients premixed will save time but will remove the variations that many home bakers love. If you want the variation you can make up your own recipes or use any of the hundreds of free bread recipes available online.
